outheback board materials are world class and our construction using superior materials and techniques means you can now access high performance boards at a fraction of the price.

Here are some construction details for your information:

Performance: Most epoxy boards provide a different riding experience to regular fibreglass boards. Our manufacturer is one of a select few in the market currently making epoxy boards with wood stringers. This allows our boards to flex more like traditional polyester resin boards. So when you buy an outheback or Ze-Girls board, you’re getting the strength and durability of epoxy, with all the feel of a regular polyester resin board. We make stronger boards that perform better.

Shaping:  outheback does not sell "pop out" or molded boards. Each outheback board is hand-shaped by experts. We work with a group of experts from around the world, sharing ideas and designs. Our standard shapes are roughed out on a duplicating machine run by a human, not a computer, assuring that the rocker and outline are true. Finish shapers then fine-tune the bottom, rail’s and foil for optimum performance and flow.

Board Design:  outheback surfboards are stronger than  a typical surfboard. Our surfboards are made from 100% epoxy resin for maximum strength. However, this doesn’t mean compromising style, so we utilise extruded polystyrene foam blanks for lightness and superior floatation.

Stringers:  In all outheback boards the natural timber stringers used are one of the highest strength to weight ratio stringer materials available. These results in stiff, light, strong, ding resistant boards that maintain flex characteristics, appearance and performance.

Resin:  At outheback we use an epoxy resin from the USA, especially formulated to balance tensile strength, flexibility, hardness, impact strength and non toxicity. It is 4 times stronger and tougher than polyester resin, resisting breakage and dings.

Fibreglass: outheback board fibreglass cloth comes from France. We use 6oz + 6oz on the deck and 6oz on the bottom for our Epoxy surfboards. The materials are slightly different in our Honey Comb sandwich construction used in our Custom Orders – where a NERO Cross link Honey Comb cloth is sandwiched in between the fibreglass cloth used on the deck.

Fins:  outheback boards come complete with patented DFS (Detachable Fin System) or UFD composite fins. DFS or UFD fins are reasonably priced and come in shapes, sizes and flex to work well in all conditions. Our DFS fin boxes also accommodate other Fins on the market. i.e. FCS, Shapers, and other after-market brands.
